REQUIREMENTS REGISTRATION OF NGO’S/INGO’S IN TANZANIA

As per the recent amendments of Laws (Miscellaneous Amendment) (No 3) Act of 2019 which was assented on 30th June, 2019 by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania his excellency John Pombe Magufuli.

The amendment among other laws, has amended the NGO’s Act and Companies Act whereby all the NGO’s registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee will be struck out in the Register of Companies and if desires to continue operating, are now required to be registered only under the NGO’s Act.

Generally, the requirement for registration of NGO/INGO’s are as follows;

  1. A copy of the Constitution of the NGO (as provided by the law)
  2. Minutes of the authorization containing full names and signatures of founder members.
  3. Personal particulars of office bearers.
  4. Passport size for office bearers
  5. Introduction letters from local government which should be submitted to District Commissioner and Regional Commissioner’s offices for authorization (this is for NGO’s operating in the national level).
  6. Full address and physical location of the head office of the NGO
  7. Application fee; as provided by the Law.

It is important to note that, during registration, the registrar of societies reserves the right to inquire for any other documents that are not particularly mentioned in the laws for the purpose of supporting the application.
